“Why us?” is the cry of some of the participants during the Web Development Training on October 15 – 19, 2007 in Visayas State University, Visca, Baybay, Leyte.
Web development is difficult. This is what the participants of the training have in mind when they were sent by their respective schools to attend a one-week training in web development.
“I am just an English teacher.”
“Di ko kahibaw magcomputer.” (I do not know how to use a computer)
These are just some of the complaints during the first day of the training. Frowns, uneasiness and fear are written all over participants’ faces.
And then, the training started. Joomla technology is explained. It is an internet technology made for content management. Once installed in the computer, all the developer of a website needs to do is change a bit of this and a bit of that and voila, a professional looking website is created. The website now contains a predefined concept, a consistent look on the color combination and a ready made layout. The hardest part web development, lay-outing, is no longer hard. As the training continues, frowns are now replaced with lopsided grins. As more and more components of Joomla are introduced, participants began to explore on their own. Even during break, they remain on their computers. Each time a new feature is introduced, they become so eager to try it and see how it looks on their own websites. Ahs and ohs are now being heard.
As the training is about to end, one of the participants from Cebu said, “With Joomla, I never thought web development could be this easy, ” says David Repollo.
